What is digital innovation? Why is it important?

- It’s about using digital technologies to develop innovative, internal, and external solutions within organizations. More specifically, to be innovative regarding ways in which to work internally or develop new customer offerings. Digital innovation is conducive to a holistic approach within organizations; this approach facilitates new ways to address new market conditions or customer expectations. When used in smart ways, new technologies often benefit everyone, i.e., organizations as a whole, their customers, and their employees.

"THIS MIX IS ENRICHING: EXPERIENCED MANAGERS SHARE THEIR KNOWLEDGE, WHILE THOSE AT THE STARTING LINE CONTRIBUTE BY ASKING NEW TYPES OF QUESTIONS."

Tell us about the educational program Accelerating Digital Innovation!

- It’s an online program during which participants are exposed to key digital innovation topics. It covers different types of disruption and how organizations can respond to disruption by innovating their business models and developing their strategies and working with experiments. It describes ways to become more data-driven in analytics and decision-making and business-critical leadership skills that facilitate digital transformation and ways to increase an organization's digital maturity. The program is structured to facilitate learning and feedback. During a 5-week period, course activities take about 4 hours per week. Each week has a special theme - e.g., disruption. The program design requires participants to first learn new theories and then put them into practice through cases. Participants then use a workbook in which they can apply their new knowledge to their individual organizations and challenges. The program's platform gives participants opportunities to share experiences and discuss ideas and results based on course exercises. Things that others have done in the same industry or other industries inspire the participants.

"WE WANT TO GIVE PARTICIPANTS THE STRENGTH AND COURAGE TO DARE TO ACT."

- Each week ends with a live, interactive webinar during which participants meet the Program Director, faculty, and each other. During the webinar, interactive exercises are done, and participants have opportunities to ask the faculty questions and to discuss with other participants. Here, participants also have a chance to meet digitally and to network. Although the course is in Swedish and many participants work in Sweden, we also have participants from different countries in Europe and North America. They come from different industries—thus creating a nice mix of knowledge and experience in the group. In addition, participants’ digital maturity creates variation. Some have come a long way in their journey, while others just starting. This mix is very enriching for the group because experienced participants share their knowledge, while newcomers to digital innovation contribute by asking new types of questions.

What results can participants expect after the program?

- Because it covers five important and central areas in which all organizations are challenged right now, participants acquire the strength and courage to dare to act. The course also raises many exciting questions and ideas among the participants, which make them want to go further and learn more – as well as explore what new opportunities digitization provides and ways in which they can benefit from these opportunities.
